As school bells ring across the Philippines, thousands of children eagerly return to their classrooms. For the children of TNK, this new school year is far more than the beginning of another academic journey, it is the continuation of a profound transformation.
Because a child belongs in a classroom, not on the streets.
For nearly thirty years, TNK has worked alongside the most vulnerable children living in the streets and slums of Metro Manila. Every day, we witness a simple but powerful truth: education changes lives.

When a child first arrives at TNK, school is often a distant memory—or a dream they have never had the chance to live. Years spent surviving on the streets, family violence, neglect, or extreme poverty have robbed them of what every child should naturally enjoy: the opportunity to learn, to play, and to hope.

Before opening a schoolbook, many of our children must first rediscover something even more fundamental: trust.
Trust that they are safe.
Trust that adults can love without hurting.
Trust that tomorrow can be different from yesterday.
Only then can learning truly begin.

At TNK, education is never reduced to grades or diplomas. It is about helping each child discover their own worth, develop their talents, and believe that they are capable of building a future. In our homes, day centers, schools, and vocational programs, education goes hand in hand with affection, stability, discipline, and family life.

This year, hundreds of children proudly put on their uniforms once again. They carry new notebooks, sharpened pencils, and school bags, but they also carry something far more precious: hope.
Hope for the little boy who once wandered the streets and now dreams of becoming a mechanic.
Hope for the young girl who has learned to read and now imagines herself one day standing in front of a classroom as a teacher.
Hope for every teenager who is discovering that their past does not define their future.

Each child writes a different story, but they all begin with the same conviction: someone believed in them.

This transformation would never happen without the extraordinary commitment of our educators, social workers, psychologists, caregivers, house parents, teachers, and volunteers. Every lesson taught, every encouraging word, every shared meal and every moment of patience helps restore what life on the streets has so often taken away.
We are equally grateful to our donors, partners, and friends around the world. Your generosity does much more than provide school supplies or pay tuition fees. It gives children the chance to reclaim their childhood, rebuild their confidence, and discover that they have a place in society.

At TNK, we often say that we are not simply helping children leave the streets, we are helping them become the men and women they were always meant to be.
As this new school year begins, we celebrate every child who walks through a school gate with confidence instead of fear.

Because every lesson learned is another step toward freedom.
Every classroom is another bridge to dignity.

And every child who returns to school reminds us that hope, when nurtured with love and perseverance, has the power to change the world.
